Who’s excited for Wednesday?! “What’s happening on Wednesday?” you may be asking yourselves. Well, on Wednesday January 10th CNN will be hosting the second to “final” GOP Presidential debate between two candidates, who aren’t going to be President, or even get the GOP nomination for President. Isn’t that exciting?
I put “final” in quotation marks because the fourth and supposedly final RNC (Republican National Committee) debate occurred on December 6th, 2023. The RNC announced it would not be participating in any additional debates in 2024. I’m no fan of the useless and irrelevant RNC but even the RNC understands these debates are a waste of time and money…the inevitable GOP Presidential candidate will be Trump, who has not participated in any of these theatrical performances called debates.
But leave it to CNN to step up and facilitate additional GOP Presidential debates. CNN is hosting two Republican primary debates—the first this Wednesday in Iowa ahead of the Iowa caucus and the second on January 21st in New Hampshire ahead of the New Hampshire caucus.
Why would CNN be offering to host additional GOP debates, by the way? Is it because they are a far-right news organization, that desperately wants to help the Republican Party? No, of course not. If CNN is offering to host debates for “Republicans,” you can rest assured there are ulterior motives driving their “benevolence.”
Now, firstly neither Trump nor Vivek Ramaswamy are participating in the least consequential debate of the century on Wednesday—Trump because he’s Trump (participating would only give DeSantis the legitimacy he craves but doesn’t have) and Ramaswamy because CNN found a way to disqualify him. Fox is hosting a Trump town hall during CNN’s “debate” while popular podcaster Tim Poole will host Ramaswamy. In other words, there are three competing primary offerings for your viewing pleasure.
But second and more importantly, CNN is only hosting these “debates” between Haley and DeSantis to give Haley and DeSantis an opportunity to ramp up their Trump bashing (to help Democrats) and delay inevitable and necessary Republican unity around Trump (which also helps Democrats).
Just to be clear: Trump will the nominee. It doesn’t matter if you love him or hate him, or support DeSantis or Haley over him…he’s going to be the nominee.
My position is and has been that these fake debates and games are wasting precious time. If Haley or DeSantis had a chance of beating Trump I would have a different opinion. In fact, I’ve been so confident about this reality—Trump being our candidate—that I wrote an entire book intended to convince the American voter about the existential importance of voting for Trump over Biden or some other yet-to-be determined replacement come November.
When I told my publisher the premise I remember him asking me: “Is there a possibility Trump isn’t the nominee?” I said, “no.” Obviously, the publisher would have a problem if they invested in a book that was rendered completely irrelevant. But so supremely confident was I that the book was published.
America’s Last Stand: Will You Vote to Save or Destroy America in 2024?
Look, both DeSantis and Haley have been thoroughly humiliated. Rather than fulfilling their child-like fantasies of slaying Trump and solidifying their own place as the future of GOP politics, they got smacked in the face with reality and discovered they were only legends in their own minds. Only their own hubris prevents them from bowing out. DeSantis or Haley must win the Iowa caucus to justify the continuation of their presidential campaigns. But, of course, they will likely both simply shift their attention to New Hampshire a couple weeks later and further delay the inevitable end of their candidacies.
If and when Trump wins the Iowa caucus on January 15th, Haley and DeSantis should both gracefully bow out, end the charade, and urge their twelve supporters each to unify behind Trump because the country is more important than either of their egos.
Yes, I’m aware I didn’t mention Ramaswamy. That’s because Ramaswamy is conducting a campaign that is a net benefit to both Trump and America. Ramaswamy has used the platform afforded to him as a GOP presidential candidate to bash the left and attract new conservative voters. In fact, had DeSantis run his campaign like Ramaswamy, he might have seen his popularity rise rather than collapse.
Haley? What do you want me to say? For the most part the “bird brain” has refrained from behaving like a Never Trumper (incessantly slandering Trump’s record and character), instead exposing herself as a corrupt, big Government RINO.
The fact that CNN has organized not one, but two debates has basically given both Haley and DeSantis an excuse to remain in the race even after they lose in Iowa. The CNN hosted New Hampshire caucus debate is already on the books, which superficially extends the contest for another couple of weeks.
Ramaswamy, by the way, will likely stay in the race as long as Haley and DeSantis do. And why shouldn’t he? His chances of getting the nomination are as good as Haley and DeSantis.
Regardless, neither Haley nor DeSantis seem to recognize that the debate they are attending on Wednesday is not a debate so much as a eulogy. CNN has invited them to eulogize their presidential campaigns. But will this be the final funeral or will we be subjected to another in New Hampshire?
Wednesday should be the final fake debate, but who knows. Perhaps they’ll go on to stand on another CNN stage in New Hampshire and that will be the “last” debate. Or maybe MSNBC will step up and announce it will host two GOP Presidential debates.
Neither DeSantis, Haley, nor Ramaswamy want to be the first to call it quits. I’m sure DeSantis is just praying he can outlast Haley and Ramaswamy and claim it’s a two person race. If that happens, what is DeSantis going to do, debate himself?
Feel free to skip all three options on Wednesday. All are inconsequential. I’ll fill you in on anything you may miss.
